Step-by-Step Installation

Prepare the Environment
Work indoors in a dust-free environment — never install in direct sunlight or outdoors where wind can carry debris. Close all garage doors and air vents. The ideal temperature range is 60–85°F (15–29°C). Cold environments slow curing; hot environments accelerate adhesion but reduce repositioning time.

Deep Clean the Glass
Roll the window down 2–3 inches. Spray ammonia-free cleaner on the interior glass surface. Use a razor blade at a 30° angle to remove adhesive residue, bug splatter, and mineral deposits. Wipe thoroughly with a lint-free microfiber cloth using overlapping strokes — no circular motions. Clean the top rubber seal where the glass rolls into the door frame.
⚠️Never use ammonia-based cleaners — they degrade the film's adhesive and cause premature failure.

Pre-Cut the Film (Exterior Shaping)
Mist the outside of the window with slip solution. Lay the film (liner side facing outward) over the glass. Cut roughly with 1" margin on all sides. For flat side windows, this is straightforward. For curved rear glass, use a heat gun to shrink and contour the film — work in sections from the center outward, applying gentle heat and using your fingers to push out "fingers" (vertical wrinkle lines) before they set.
💡Carbon film's paper-like feel makes it one of the easiest films to shrink. Apply low, even heat and let the film contract naturally rather than forcing it.

Apply Film to Interior Glass
Spray the interior window generously with slip solution. Peel the backing liner from the film. Hold the film by the edges only — never touch the adhesive with bare fingers. Slide the film onto the wet glass adhesive-side down, aligning from the top edge first. The slip solution gives you 30–60 seconds of repositioning time before the adhesive begins to grab.

Squeegee Out Moisture & Align Edges
Start from the center of the film and squeegee outward toward the edges using firm, overlapping strokes. Work methodically — top to bottom, center to sides. This pushes slip solution and air bubbles out from under the film. Use a hard card wrapped in microfiber for the final edge passes to avoid scratching the film surface.
💡Small water bubbles that remain are normal — they will dry clear during the curing process. Only persistent air pockets need to be addressed.

Final Trim & Edge Sealing
Using a fresh razor blade, trim excess film at the edges with the door seal and rubber gasket as your guide. Apply a final pass with the squeegee along all edges to seal them firmly. For the top edge, roll the window up slightly to tuck the film into the gasket — this creates the clean, professional finished edge.

Steel wool, abrasive sponges, or coarse cloths will scratch the film surface and permanently dull the appearance.

Key Difference vs. Carbon: Ceramic film is slightly stiffer and more sensitive to heat shrinking. Use a lower heat gun setting and more passes rather than one intense burst. Over-heating ceramic film can create small wrinkle lines that won't relax.

Environment & Glass Prep
Same as Carbon Series: indoors, dust-free, 60–85°F. Deep clean the glass with ammonia-free cleaner and a razor blade. For ceramic film, follow with a final wipe using 70% IPA on a lint-free wipe — this removes any residual wax, silicone, or oil that could prevent the ceramic adhesive from bonding cleanly.

Pre-Cut on Exterior (Careful Heat Shrinking)
Mist outside of window with slip solution. Lay film on exterior, liner facing you. For flat windows, cut with standard margins. For curved rear glass, use a heat gun on LOW setting, holding it 6–8 inches from the film surface. Work in small sections — heat for 2–3 seconds, then use your finger or squeegee to push fingers (wrinkle lines) toward the edges. Repeat slowly across the entire rear glass.
⚠️Do not use high heat in a concentrated area on ceramic film. Distribute heat evenly — ceramic particles respond to gradual heating better than intense localized heat.
💡Test the heat gun on your hand at the same distance for 2–3 seconds. If it's uncomfortable, it's too hot for the film.

Interior Application
Generously spray interior glass with slip solution. Peel liner, holding film by edges only. Position from top edge, sliding into alignment. Due to the ceramic film's slightly stiffer body, you may have less flexibility to reposition compared to carbon film — work faster and confirm alignment before the adhesive begins to tack.

Squeegee & Final Adhesion
Use a felt-edge squeegee for ceramic film — the hard card edge can create subtle micro-scratches on the ceramic topcoat during aggressive squeegee passes. Work center-to-edge methodically. Apply moderate, firm pressure. After initial water removal, do a final pass with a clean, dry microfiber to press any remaining lifted edges.

Trim, Tuck & Final Sealing
Trim with a fresh, sharp blade — test your blade on scrap tint before trimming. A dull blade drags and can tear the ceramic layers rather than cutting cleanly. Tuck the top edge into the gasket. Heat seal all edges with a low-setting heat gun to ensure full adhesion and prevent lifting in cold weather.

Critical Note: Ultra IR Ceramic's multi-layer construction is significantly thicker than standard films. Do NOT use aggressive heat gun settings. The extra ceramic layers can delaminate internally if overheated — use low heat, multiple slow passes.
Step-by-Step Installation

Full Surface Decontamination
For a flagship-tier product, surface prep must be flawless. Clean with ammonia-free cleaner → razor blade debris removal → final IPA wipe-down on every window. Any contamination trapped under a $200 film is costly. Take extra time here — 30 minutes of prep saves hours of remakes.

Exterior Pre-Cutting & Gradual Heat Shrink
Mist outside of window. Lay film with liner toward you. For flat glass, cut with 3/4" margin — this film cuts cleaner with slightly tighter margins due to its thickness. For curved rear glass, use variable heat gun on LOW (120–140°F equivalent). Shrink in 3–4 progressive passes across the entire rear window rather than intense focal heating. Each pass relaxes the film further — patience produces a cleaner result than rushing.
💡Hold heat gun 8–10 inches from the film on Ultra IR. Its multi-layer construction transfers heat more slowly — allow the film to respond before adding more heat.
💡Anchor the bottom corners with a small piece of tape while heat-shrinking the top to prevent the film from sliding off the curved glass.

Interior Application & Positioning
Spray interior generously with slip solution. Remove backing liner carefully — Ultra IR film is stiffer than single-layer films. A second installer is recommended for windshield and rear glass applications. Position from the top, sliding to center alignment. The thicker film body means it will hold its shape better during positioning — use this to your advantage for precise placement.

Thorough Squeegee Technique
Use a felt-edge squeegee exclusively — never a bare hard card on Ultra IR. Begin with moderate pressure from center outward. Due to the film's thickness, you need more deliberate pressure to fully flush slip solution from under the film. After initial pass, follow up with a microfiber-wrapped hard card for edge sealing. Pay special attention to the corners and along the door gasket seal.

Precision Trim & Edge Heat Sealing
Use only fresh OLFA blades — test on waste film first. The Ultra IR's extra thickness requires a sharp blade for a clean cut; a dull blade will drag and fray the edge, which can become a long-term peeling point. After trimming, use low heat gun to seal every edge — run the heat along the perimeter, followed immediately by a squeegee edge pass to ensure complete adhesion.

Ultra IR Ceramic is engineered for lifetime performance. Under normal conditions it will never fade, bubble, or change color. Standard washing is all that's needed.
Haze During Cure Is Normal
Due to the multi-layer construction, water pockets and slight haze during the first 2–3 weeks is normal and expected. The film will clear completely once fully cured.
No Harsh Chemicals or Solvents
The ceramic particle matrix is impervious to heat but can be degraded by aggressive chemical cleaners — use only mild, pH-neutral products.

Paint Correction & Decontamination
PPF does not hide paint defects — it seals them permanently beneath the film. Inspect the paint carefully under shop lighting. Any scratches, swirl marks, or chips visible before installation will be preserved. Wash the vehicle with high-pH decontamination shampoo, clay bar all painted surfaces to remove embedded contaminants, and perform a machine polish if needed. Finish with a thorough IPA wipe-down of all panels to be filmed.
⚠️Do not apply PPF over wax or ceramic coating — always strip these first with IPA to ensure direct adhesion to the clear coat.
💡Use compressed air to blow debris from panel gaps, grilles, and headlight edges before installing adjacent sections — debris migrates during installation.

Controlled Installation Environment
PPF must be installed indoors in a clean, enclosed space — 60–90°F (15–32°C). Never install in direct sunlight or outdoors. Keep the installation area humidity-controlled; excessive humidity slows curing. Warm the vehicle to at least 60°F before beginning — cold panels cause the PPF adhesive to lose tack. In cold months, infrared heaters can warm panels before installation.

Cut or Position Pre-Cut Film
For pre-cut kits: inspect the film for damage before installation — a damaged pre-cut film cannot be replaced once installed. For bulk film: measure each panel with a tape measure, allowing 1" overhang on all exposed edges and 0.25" for wrapped edges. Use masking tape to mark panel boundaries. Cut on a flat, clean surface — never cut directly on the paint.

Wet Application with Slip Solution
Spray the panel surface generously with slip solution. Peel the backing liner from the film — peel it down and away at a 45° angle to reduce static and edge curl. Apply the film to the wet panel, adhesive side down. The slip solution allows free repositioning for 60–90 seconds. Align carefully — center the film on the panel, confirming all edges have adequate overhang before squeegeeing.
💡For large horizontal panels like hoods and roofs, a second installer greatly reduces the risk of the film folding onto itself or trapping air.

Squeegee Out Slip Solution
Starting from the highest point of the panel, squeegee the film toward the edges using overlapping strokes. Apply firm, even pressure. As slip solution is expelled and the film begins to tack down, switch to tack solution on the edges to ensure perimeter adhesion. If debris is spotted under the film, immediately lift the section, spray more slip solution, remove the contaminant, and re-apply.

Edge Wrapping & Corner Tucking
Use tack solution along edges. Wrap the film around panel edges, into door gaps, and tuck at corners. Start with the most difficult corners — if those are clean, the remaining edges follow easily. Apply gentle heat to the edges while wrapping to make the TPU more pliable — this reduces stress on the corners and prevents lifting. Use a hard card or thumbnail to press the film firmly into gaps.
⚠️Do not overheat edge areas. Test heat gun airflow on the back of your hand at the same distance — if it's uncomfortable after 2–3 seconds, it's too hot for the film.

Final Inspection & Heat Curing Edges
Do a final pass over all installed sections under good lighting. Check for lifted edges, small moisture bubbles, and trapped debris. For moisture bubbles — if small, they will self-cure within 48–72 hours. For persistent air pockets — use a fine needle (lancet) to puncture the center of the bubble and press out the air; the PPF will self-heal the tiny puncture with ambient heat. Run the heat gun one final time along all edges and corners to ensure complete sealing.

Hand wash with pH-neutral soap and a soft microfiber mitt. The hydrophobic clear coat on PPF V1 sheds water and contaminants easily — regular washing is straightforward.
Self-Healing Activation
Minor swirls and light scratches activate the self-healing topcoat with heat. Park in direct sunlight for 1–2 hours or pour warm water over the surface — scratches typically vanish within 20–60 minutes.
No Automated Brush Car Washes
Brush car washes apply sideways pressure that can lift PPF edges over time, especially on freshly installed sections. Touchless or hand wash only.
No High-Pressure Washing Near Edges
Keep pressure washer nozzle at least 18–24 inches from film edges and seams, especially in the first 30 days. Direct high-pressure at seams can force water under the film before full cure.

Paint Protection Film Version 2

PPF V2 uses an upgraded TPU formulation with stronger self-healing, enhanced hydrophobic properties, and superior resistance to yellowing and cracking. Installation technique is nearly identical to PPF V1, with specific considerations for V2's improved edge flexibility and its enhanced tack solution compatibility.
V2 vs. V1 Installation Differences: PPF V2's more flexible TPU body wraps edges more easily with less heat required. It also bonds slightly faster when exposed to tack solution — be mindful of this when positioning large panels and work slightly faster during the repositioning window than with V1.

Step-by-Step Installation (V2 Specific Notes)

Paint Correction & IPA Full Decon
Identical to PPF V1: wash, clay bar, machine polish if needed, full IPA wipe-down. V2's improved adhesive is excellent at bonding to clean clear coat — it is equally unforgiving of wax, silicone, or contamination. Do not skip the IPA wipe on any section that will be filmed.

Film Cutting & Panel Coverage
V2 is designed for full-front and full-vehicle coverage. For maximum protection, plan coverage to include: front bumper, hood leading edge and full hood, front fenders, A-pillars, mirrors, and rocker panels. Pre-cut kits are strongly recommended for V2 installations — the improved film body cuts extremely cleanly with pre-cut plotters and reduces waste.

Wet Application — Work Panel by Panel
Begin with the easiest flat panels (doors) before progressing to complex surfaces (front bumper, hood). Spray each panel with slip solution immediately before installing that section — don't prep multiple panels ahead of time as the slip solution can dry or attract airborne dust. Install methodically: position → confirm alignment → squeegee center-to-edge → tack edges → wrap corners.

V2 Advantage: Easier Edge Wrapping
V2's improved TPU flexibility means edge-wrapping requires less heat than V1. For most corners, the film will wrap cleanly with just body heat and hand pressure — apply heat only for tight compound curves (front bumper corners, fender flares). This reduces the risk of heat distortion on delicate edge areas of the film.
💡Start with the hardest corners first on each panel — if those wrap cleanly, the simpler edges are easy. This logic holds for every PPF installation.

Final Inspection, Bubble Fix & Edge Seal
Inspect under direct shop lighting. V2's enhanced optical clarity makes it easier to spot remaining air pockets. Address moisture bubbles vs. air pockets differently: moisture bubbles — leave them, they'll self-cure. Air pockets — use a lancet needle at the bubble edge, press air out from behind, self-heal activates within hours. Heat seal all edges as final step.

Inspect Edges Seasonally
In northern climates, inspect PPF edges in spring for any lifted sections caused by road salt and ice scraping during winter. Spot repairs are far less costly than full panel replacement.
No Wax-Based Products
Traditional waxes and polishes can cause staining or clouding on PPF. Use only PPF-certified products for maintenance and detailing.

OcuMatte is Oculent's premium matte-finish PPF. The satin topcoat requires specific installation techniques that differ significantly from gloss PPF. Matte films are more sensitive to squeegee pressure, heat, and edge finishing — incorrect technique can create permanent gloss streaks or micro-polish lines on the satin surface that are visible after installation.
Critical Matte-Specific Warning: Never use a hard card directly on the matte topcoat surface. A single aggressive squeegee pass with a bare hard card can create irreversible gloss micro-marks on the satin finish. Always use microfiber-wrapped squeegee tools on the film surface. This is the #1 installation mistake on matte PPF.

Re-wet Your Felt Squeegee Frequently: A dry felt edge can polish micro-gloss lines into the satin topcoat with repeated passes. Keep the felt edge damp throughout the installation and do a final even "finish pass" to equalize the texture across the whole panel.

Paint Prep (Extra Critical for Matte)
All standard PPF prep applies: wash, clay bar, IPA wipe. For matte PPF specifically — do not machine polish with a finishing glaze or spray wax before installation. These products leave a gloss residue on the surface that will appear as uneven sheen through the matte film. IPA wipe only as the final prep step.

Film Handling — Protect the Matte Surface
When cutting and handling OcuMatte, always ensure the matte topcoat faces away from your cutting surface. Place a clean microfiber cloth under the film when cutting. Fingerprints on the matte surface before installation can create permanent oil stains — wear nitrile gloves and handle only by the liner backing.

Wet Application & Positioning
Application is identical to clear PPF — spray panel with slip solution, peel liner, position film, confirm alignment. Matte PPF's slightly firmer body makes precise positioning easier — take your time during the positioning window to confirm perfect alignment before squeegeeing. Once you begin squeegeeing, the film will tack quickly.

Matte-Safe Squeegee Technique
Use only felt-edge or microfiber-wrapped squeegees on the matte surface — never bare hard card. Keep the felt edge damp throughout each pass. Apply moderate, even pressure — the goal is to push out slip solution without creating pressure differentials that show as gloss streaks. Work methodically from center outward. Perform a final light "finish pass" across the entire panel using a freshly dampened felt edge to even the texture.
⚠️Dry squeegee passes on matte PPF are irreversible. If the felt edge dries out mid-panel, stop, re-wet, and continue — never finish a dry pass.

Edge Wrapping & Heat Application (Conservative)
Matte films can lose some of their flat appearance with excessive heat — it reduces the micro-texture of the satin topcoat. Use heat only for tight compound curves and difficult edge wraps — minimum heat needed to make the TPU pliable. Apply heat, wrap the edge, press firmly with a microfiber cloth, and move on quickly. The film will set and maintain the satin finish as it cools.

Post-Installation Inspection (Matte Specific)
Inspect under multiple lighting conditions — overhead fluorescent, side raking light, and natural light. Matte films show installation inconsistencies under raking light that aren't visible under overhead light. Check for: gloss streaks from squeegee passes, fingerprint oils, edge lifting, and any uneven texture across panel surfaces. Address issues immediately before the adhesive fully cures.

Matte PPF Care — Critical Rules
Use Matte-Specific Shampoo Only
pH-neutral, matte-safe shampoos only. Standard wax-enhanced shampoos will deposit gloss films on the satin surface, creating uneven patches over time.
Pat Dry — Never Wipe Aggressively
Pat-dry with a clean microfiber cloth. Aggressive wiping on the matte surface causes swirl marks that are far more visible on satin than on gloss finishes.
Self-Healing: Apply Gentle Heat
Minor scratches disappear when the matte topcoat is warmed with sun heat or warm water. Do not use high heat directly on the satin surface — this can flatten the micro-texture and create glossy spots.
Never Wax, Polish, or Apply Gloss Products
Any gloss-enhancing product applied to OcuMatte will permanently alter the satin finish, creating uneven sheen across the panel surface. This damage is irreversible short of film replacement.
No Automated Car Washes
Brush contact and silicone-based rinse aids used in automated car washes will contaminate and alter the matte surface texture permanently.

Ultra Black Gloss PPF is a color-change film — deep mirror-black finish with self-healing TPU protection underneath. Upgrade Your Environment Standards
For Ultra Black Gloss PPF, clean your installation area more thoroughly than for clear PPF. Sweep and mop the floor before the install. Close air vents and let air settle for 20 minutes before beginning. Every dust particle in the air is a potential defect under dark film. Install under multiple light sources so you can see contamination immediately.

Panel Prep — Absolute Cleanliness
Wash, clay bar, and IPA wipe-down as standard. For color PPF specifically — use compressed air to blow out all gaps, grilles, and panel edges after the IPA wipe. Re-IPA wipe after the compressed air step to catch any debris that was dislodged. The panel must be visually spotless under direct lighting before any film is applied.

Film Alignment Planning
Unlike clear PPF where seams are invisible, Ultra Black Gloss PPF seams must be planned carefully. Align film joins at natural panel edges and design lines wherever possible — at door gaps, body character lines, and trim edges. Seams in the center of flat panels will be visible. Plan coverage sections before cutting any film.

Wet Application & Aggressive Contamination Check
Apply film with slip solution as standard. After initial positioning — before squeegeeing — do a visual scan of the film for trapped debris. On black film, you can often see bumps and foreign particles through the surface. Lift and re-apply any sections with visible contamination. Once squeegeeing begins, contamination is locked in permanently.

Squeegee — Even Pressure, Inspect After Each Pass
Squeegee with even, deliberate strokes. After each squeegee pass, pause and inspect the film surface under raking light — look for air pockets, streaks, or trapped particles. It's far easier to address these during installation than after the adhesive fully sets. Take your time between passes.

Edge Finishing — Clean Cuts Are Critical
On black film, uneven edge cuts are immediately visible. Use only sharp blades — test each blade segment before use. Make steady, one-pass cuts with consistent depth. Ragged or stepped edges on Ultra Black Gloss PPF reflect light differently and create visible transition lines at seams. After trimming, heat-seal and squeegee all edges firmly.

Easy to Keep Clean — Hydrophobic Surface
The gloss PPF topcoat sheds water and contaminants easily. Regular hand washing with pH-neutral soap is all that's needed to maintain the deep mirror finish.
Avoid Parking in Direct Sun in Extreme Heat
Dark colored films absorb significantly more solar heat than light finishes. In hot climates (AZ, FL, TX), park in shade when possible and pair with Ultra IR Ceramic Tint to offset interior heat from the dark exterior.
No Abrasive Products on Gloss Surface
The mirror gloss finish shows swirl marks and buffer swirls more clearly than any other finish. Use only products specifically formulated for PPF and never machine polish the film surface.

Shifted Color Change PPF is Oculent's most technically demanding film — a color-shifting TPU film with an iridescent optical layer that changes appearance based on viewing angle and light. The chameleon layer is extremely sensitive to installation errors. Seam alignment, uniform squeegee pressure, and edge consistency all directly affect the visual color-shift effect. This product should only be installed by experienced PPF technicians.
Advanced Installation Required: Shifted Color PPF's color-shift layer is the most visually unforgiving film Oculent offers. Inconsistent squeegee pressure creates "pressure marks" in the iridescent layer that appear as dull patches in the color-shift effect. Only experienced installers with a minimum of 50+ clear PPF installs should attempt this film.

Color-Shift Film Specifics: The iridescent layer in chameleon PPF uses optical color-shifting pigments that are sensitive to both pressure and heat. Use tack solution sparingly (less IPA concentration recommended — 10% max). The film is typically more naturally stretchy than standard clear PPF — use minimal heat during edge wrapping.

Client Consultation & Seam Planning
Before any installation, plan seam placement with the client. On color-shift film, seams are visible because the color-shift angle is different on overlapping pieces. Plan seams at: door gaps, body character lines, windshield trim edges, and natural panel breaks. Document the seam plan — it will affect how you cut and apply each section of film across the vehicle.

Maximum Environment Control
Color-shift films show environmental contamination more than any other film type. The iridescent layer can pick up particles as small as 50 microns and make them visible at angle. Install in the cleanest possible environment — no foot traffic during installation, floor damp-wiped before beginning, air allowed to settle for 30 minutes before opening film rolls.

Panel Prep — Spotless is the Standard
Full wash, clay bar, IPA decon as standard. For Shifted Color PPF, verify cleanliness by inspecting under a high-power shop light at a raking angle after each prep step. Any remaining contamination will be visibly amplified by the color-shift layer once film is applied. Do not proceed until each panel passes visual inspection.

Wet Application — Slow & Methodical
Apply with slip solution as standard. The key difference with Shifted Color PPF: do not rush the positioning phase. The color-shift effect requires precise film alignment so the iridescent angle reads consistently across panels. Take extra time to confirm perfect alignment before the first squeegee pass. Once squeegeeing begins, repositioning will disturb the optical layer.

Uniform Pressure Squeegee — The Most Critical Step
Use a felt-edge squeegee with absolutely consistent pressure throughout each pass. Pressure variations create differential adhesion in the optical layer — visible as subtle dull patches in the color-shift effect under certain lighting angles. Use both hands to control squeegee angle and pressure. Work slowly and methodically. Do not use hard card squeegees on the film surface at any point.
💡After squeegeeing each section, view the film from multiple angles under raking light immediately — pressure marks must be addressed within 5–10 minutes before the adhesive sets. After that, they are permanent.

Minimal Heat Edge Wrapping
Shifted Color Change PPF's aliphatic TPU is naturally more stretchy and conformable than standard TPU at room temperature — use this flexibility to wrap edges with minimal heat. Low heat (15–20 second exposure at 8+ inches) only for tight compound curves. The iridescent layer can "shift" permanently with excessive heat, creating a slightly different color angle at heat-exposed edges versus the rest of the film.

Multi-Angle Final Inspection
Perform the final inspection by walking around the vehicle slowly and viewing each panel from multiple angles: straight on, 45°, 90° raking, and from low angles. The color-shift effect should flow smoothly and consistently across each panel and across seams. Any inconsistencies in the shift pattern indicate pressure marks, improper squeegee technique, or seam misalignment that should be addressed before the client takes delivery.

Hand Wash Only — pH-Neutral Soap
The color-shift optical layer is sensitive to chemical degradation. Always use pH-neutral, PPF-safe shampoo. Hand wash only — no automatic car washes of any kind.
Park in Shade When Possible
While the PPF UV-blocks 99%+ of radiation, parking in shade in hot climates preserves the iridescent optical layer for maximum visual impact over the long term.
Self-Healing Activation
Minor swirls heal with ambient temperature heat. For faster healing, leave vehicle in direct sunlight for 1–2 hours. The color-shift properties are maintained through and after self-healing.
No Wax, Polish, or Abrasive Products
Never machine polish, wax, or use abrasive compounds on Shifted Color PPF. These can disrupt the iridescent layer and create permanent dull patches that destroy the color-shift effect.
No High-Pressure Washing at Seams
Color PPF seam edges are visible — directing high-pressure water at seams can lift edges and damage the color-shift optical layer at the transition point.
